Assam Police Bust Illegal Betting Den in Tinsukia, Cash Seized

Assam Police have busted an alleged gambling racket operating from a house in Digboi town of Tinsukia district and arrested six people, including an employee of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, officials said. The operation was carried out by a police team under the supervision of Co-District Superintendent of Police Himangshu Gohain after officers received specific information about gambling activities allegedly taking place in the area. According to police sources, the raid was conducted at a house located in Lachit Nagar along the Digboi–Pengaree Road under the jurisdiction of Digboi Police Station. Investigators said the suspected gambling operation had reportedly been functioning from the location for some time and was already under the watch of the police before the raid was carried out.

Officials said the house where the operation was conducted allegedly belongs to Md Hasim, also known locally as ‘Marshall’. Police suspect that gambling activities were being organised from the ground floor of the building, while the upper portion of the house was reportedly being used as a boys’ hostel.During the raid, police detained six persons from the spot. Four of those arrested were identified as Madhav Rao, Arun Sirkey, Pankaj Das and Md Hasim. The identities of the remaining two individuals have not yet been officially disclosed by the police.Among those arrested, Madhav Rao was identified as an employee of Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s Assam Oil Division. Sources said he was working in the Land and Revenue Section of the company. Investigators believe the group may have been part of a larger organised network. Police sources claimed that the people detained during the operation came from different professional backgrounds, including company employees, businessmen and a contractor.

During the search operation, police also recovered cash and several items allegedly linked to gambling activities from the premises. However, officials have not yet disclosed the exact amount of money seized during the raid. The case has also raised concerns among local residents because students from nearby private educational institutions were reportedly staying in the hostel located on the upper floor of the same building where the alleged gambling activities were taking place.
