As part of the ongoing efforts to address the problem of artificial floods in Guwahati, Assam Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai conducted an inspection of several flood-prone areas of the city, including Anil Nagar, Tarun Nagar and ABC, on Friday.
During the visit, the Minister reviewed the status of pumps installed at different locations, the drainage system, the functioning of drains and other aspects related to the discharge of rainwater.
He also interacted with the concerned officials and assessed the progress of measures being undertaken to mitigate water logging caused by heavy rainfall.
“Among the government’s top priorities is to ensure that the citizens of Guwahati do not face inconvenience due to rainwater accumulation,” Rai said.
Emphasising the need for greater vigilance and coordination among the concerned departments, he directed officials to closely monitor all aspects related to drainage and flood mitigation and to take necessary steps promptly wherever required.
During the inspection, the Minister was accompanied by Diplu Ranjan Sarma, MLA, New Guwahati, Chief Executive Officer of the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) Anbamuthan MP, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner Chinmoy Phukan, along with other officials.
