The snow-clad slopes of Penga Teng Tso Lake in Tawang became the epicenter of high-altitude sports as the Open National Ski Mountaineering Championship 2026 concluded with a display of remarkable athletic prowess. Organized as a cornerstone of the ongoing “Winter Adventure Tawang” initiative, the event celebrated the growing popularity of winter sports in Northeast India while showcasing the region’s world-class natural terrain.
The championship drew a diverse pool of talent, including elite athletes from across the country and local trainees from various districts of Arunachal Pradesh. These participants faced the grueling challenges of Tawang’s high-altitude environment, demonstrating exceptional endurance and technical skill. The Honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Kento Jini, graced the ceremony as the chief guest.
