TMCH Expels Seven Students from Hostel Over Alleged Ragging

The authorities of Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) have expelled seven students from the Old Boys’ Hostel for three months following complaints of alleged ragging. The action has been taken pending an inquiry by the college administration.

TMCH Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent, Prof. Gunajit Das, stated that complaints involving students from the 2022 and 2023 batches were received. The institution also received a complaint from the Anti-Ragging Cell in New Delhi, prompting the authorities to take immediate action through the college’s Anti-Ragging Committee and Anti-Ragging Squad.

As part of the investigation, the college collected anonymous feedback from students and conducted a detailed review of the allegations. The feedback reportedly identified eight students. Additional concerns were also raised by first-year female students regarding the behavior of certain students.

The inquiry further revealed a separate complaint involving a student who was not residing in the hostel, along with another alleged ragging-related incident noticed by the principal himself.

Based on the complaints and the recommendations of the Anti-Ragging Committee, the college administration ordered the immediate expulsion of seven students from the Old Boys’ Hostel for a period of three months.

Apart from the hostel expulsions, the authorities imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on one student and Rs 10,000 on an intern. Both have been instructed to pay the fines immediately. The college administration also issued a strong warning, directing all students to refrain from any form of ragging and to strictly comply with anti-ragging regulations.
