Tata Motors posts 17% growth in May commercial vehicle sales

Tata Motors reported a 17 per cent year-on-year increase in commercial vehicle sales in May 2026, with total domestic and international sales rising to 32,850 units compared to 28,147 units in the same month last year. According to the company, domestic sales stood at 30,784 units in May 2026, registering a robust 19 per cent growth from 25,872 units in May 2025. However, international business sales declined by 9 per cent to 2,066 units from 2,275 units a year ago.

Among vehicle segments, small commercial vehicle (SCV) cargo and pickup sales recorded the highest growth at 30 per cent, increasing to 11,819 units from 9,064 units. Passenger carrier sales rose 21 per cent to 5,757 units, while heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) truck sales grew 11 per cent to 7,877 units. Intermediate, light and medium commercial vehicle (ILMCV) truck sales increased 8 per cent to 5,331 units. Domestic sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MH&ICV) stood at 13,679 units, up 10 per cent from 12,406 units in May last year. Combined domestic and international MH&ICV sales grew 7 per cent to 14,596 units.

The strong growth reflects continued demand from infrastructure, logistics and transportation sectors. In Kolkata, improving freight movement, construction activity and rising demand for cargo transportation vehicles have supported commercial vehicle sales. Dealers in the region expect demand to remain healthy in the coming months, driven by infrastructure projects and economic activity across eastern India. Part of the Tata Group, Tata Motors is one of India’s leading manufacturers of trucks, buses, pick-ups and utility vehicles, with operations spanning India and several international markets.
