Tata Motors Ltd. has recorded its highest-ever annual patent filing performance for its commercial vehicle business in FY26, filing 144 patent applications as the company accelerated its focus on innovation and future-ready mobility solutions. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company said the filings were aimed at advancing vehicle safety, reliability, occupant comfort, and reducing total cost of ownership for customers. The filings also reflected Tata Motors’ growing focus on sustainable mobility technologies, including electric vehicles and hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines.
Apart from patent filings, the company submitted 21 design applications and 35 copyright applications during the financial year. It also secured 15 patent grants, taking its cumulative granted patents portfolio to more than 650. Commenting on the achievement, Aniruddha Kulkarni, Vice President and Head of Engineering at Tata Motors, said innovation remained central to the company’s growth strategy and reflected the technical capabilities of its engineering teams. He added that the company aimed to strengthen its position as a global leader in commercial mobility innovation.
In Kolkata, the company’s growing emphasis on electric and sustainable commercial mobility could support demand in eastern India, where logistics, transport, and infrastructure sectors are witnessing steady expansion. Fleet operators in the Kolkata market are also increasingly exploring fuel-efficient and low-emission transport solutions, creating opportunities for advanced commercial vehicle technologies.
