In West Bengal, Siliguri 28 medical students of the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The Medical Superintendent and Vice-Principal of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital Dr Sanjay Mallick informed that 28 medical students, 7 nursing staff and 2 medical staff have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The Jaigaon police arrested two people with brown Sugar. The arrested accused have been identified as Rakesh Prasad and Bishal Sharma. They were produced at the court today. The OC of Jaigaon Police Station Abhishek Bhattacharya said that the police, acting on a tip-off, arrested the duo with 50 grams of brown sugar with an estimated market value of Rs 1.5 lakh. Police are investigating whether anyone else is involved in the incident.

The Union health ministry has assigned two central agencies to set up two oxygen plants at the district hospitals of Darjeeling and Kalimpong and decided conduct the projects. On Friday, the BJP MP of Darjeeling Raju Bista said that Pressure Swing Adsorption i.e. medical oxygen generator plants which would be irst-of-its-kind facility in the hills,would be available at the hospitals very soon. West Bengal continues to reel under the intense cold fog and low visibility in the isolated areas. The weather office has predicted that the minimum temperature will further decline in the next two-three days in the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has extended its weather alert till January 22 saying that the cold weather conditions in West Bengal continue as the temperature will hover below the normal limits.
