India’s Chandrayaan-2 avoids collision with NASA’s moon orbiter

For the first time in its space exploration mission, a measure was carried out recently to avoid the collision between Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter and US' Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said. Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter and National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) LRA were predicted to come very close to each other on October 20, 2021, near the Lunar North pole. Calculations by ISRO and NASA's JPL showed that the radial separation between the two spacecraft would be less than 100 m and the closest approach distance would be only about three km on October 20, 2021, at 11.15…

Nasa intern mocked for Goddess Laxmi, Saraswati idols near her laptop. Twitter reacts

Space agency NASA recently shared a collage of their interns on Twitter and the photo has rekindled the debate on science vs religion. NASA had posted a reminder that the last day for fall applications for its internships was on July 10. The debate between science and religion is as old as time and there has never been a conclusion to the debate. NASA's internships are arranged in three sessions during the calendar year, which includes spring, fall and summer. The American space agency is known for giving opportunities to future scientists, engineers and other professionals. Among the photos shared…

Scientists at TESS project find 2 exoplanets orbiting a Sun-like star

A new discovery is creating a buzz in the scientific community. Citizen scientists, part of the Planet Hunters TESS project, have found two exoplanets orbiting a Sun-like star. Royal Astronomical Society lists over a dozen citizen scientists, who participated in the project led by Nasa, to have published the new discoveries. The sun-like star, dubbed as HD 152843, is about 352 light-years away from Earth and is about the same mass as the Sun But it's about 1.5 times bigger and brighter. Orbiting this massive star are two exotic worlds and, if compared to our Sun, they lie within the orbit of Mercury.…

Nasa reveals Venus missions for 2030

Nasa reveals Venus missions for 2030

With two new missions to Venus, Nasa plans to examine the planet's atmosphere and geological features. These missions are due to launch between 2028 and 2030. The missions have each been awarded $500m (£352m) in funding. Nasa administrator Bill Nelson said the missions would offer the "chance to investigate a planet we haven't been to in more than 30 years". The missions were picked following a peer-review process and were chosen based on their potential scientific value and the feasibility of their development plans. The last probe to visit the planet was the Magellan orbiter in 1990. However other vessels…

Veteran Astronaut Michael Collins dies at 90

Veteran Astronaut Michael Collins dies at 90

Michael Collins - one of the three crew members of the first manned mission to land on the Moon, Apollo 11 in 1969 - has died aged 90, his family say. He died on Wednesday after "a valiant battle with cancer. He spent his final days peacefully, with his family by his side," they said. Collins stayed in lunar orbit as his colleagues Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon. Aldrin, 91, is now the only surviving member of the mission. Paying tribute to Collins, Aldrin wrote in a tweet: "Dear Mike, Wherever you have been or will be,…
