Seven Army soldiers were killed and 19 others seriously injured when a bus carrying them skidded off the road and fell into the Shyok River in Ladakh on Friday. The accident took place in the Tuktuk sector which is around 25 kilometres from Those in the Nubra region of Leh district. A party of 26 soldiers was moving in the vehicle from Partapur transit camp for the Siachen to a forward location in sub-sector Hanif when the mishap occurred. China controls 1,000 sq. km of area in Ladakh

China has been amassing troops and fortifying its presence along the LAC since April-May. Twenty soldiers were killed on June 15 in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh in violent clashes with China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) troops. Chinese forces are occupying a considerable area from Finger 4 to 8 near Pangong Tso (lake). The distance between Finger 4-8, the mountainous spurs abutting the lake, is about eight km.
