84 Indian Administrative Service trainees and faculty members test positive at Mussoorie

Total 84 IAS trainee officers and faculty members have tested positive for Covid at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, said academy administration on Wednesday. India reported 2,58,089 fresh COVID-19 cases and 385 deaths due to the infection in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Monday. The total number of COVID-19 infections in the country has moved up to 3,73,80,253 including 16,56,341 active cases. Active cases account for 4.43 per cent of the total infections. The Puducherry health department said, 30 health officials including doctors have tested positive for Covid-19 last week. In a statement on Sunday, the health department's Director, G. Sriramalu said: "In the last one week, 30 health officials including 12 doctors tested positive in the union territory. They are undergoing treatment." More than 300 Parliament staffers tested positive for Covid-19 between January 9 and 12, according to sources. Earlier till January 9, more than 400 of them had tested positive during random testing. “Till now, about 718 Parliament staffers have fallen prey to the virus. India witnessed single-day rise of 1,79,723 covid cases taking the total toll to 3,57,07,727, including 4,033 cases of the Omicron variant reported across 27 states and union territories, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Monday. West Bengal health department on Sunday reported an all-time high of 24,287 new cases of Covid-19 infections, the highest since the first wave of infections hit the country in 2020.
