Continuing its upward trend, recovery of patients from Covid crossed the 24-lakh mark in Karnataka, while 320 patients succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, said the state health bulletin on Sunday. “With 25,659 patients discharged during the day, 24,09,417 recovered so far, while 12,209 new cases were registered on Saturday, taking the state’s Covid tally to 26,95,523, including 2,54,505 active cases,” said the bulletin. Kerala Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal on Friday announced a Rs 20,000-crore-Covid package for the state that has seen nearly 26 lakh cases and over 9,200 deaths so far. He said vaccines to all above 18 years would be given free and for that Rs 1,000 crore have been set aside in the package. In his first budget speech, the 57-year-old Balagopal also said: “It would include Rs 2,800 crore for emergency Covid situation; Rs 8,900 crore for those who have had serious issues with their livelihoods; Rs 8,300 crore will be used for providing interest subsidies.”

India reported 1,34,154 fresh Covid-19 infections in 24 hours, taking the case to 28,440,988, as per Health Ministry data. Fresh COVID cases continued to fall as it has been seven days since cases have not reached the 200,000-mark.   For the straight 44th consecutive day over 2,000 daily Covid deaths have been reported from the country.
