While smuggling activities along the Indo-Bangladesh Border had reduced considerably after the lockdown was imposed in the month of march. The recent huge seizure made by Border Security Force indicate a sharp increase in smuggling especially cattle and dry pea. During the month of September 2020 alone BSF seized 57,100 kg of dry pea worth more than 56 lakhs and 511 cattle head worth more than 79 lakhs in East Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills, East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills, while being smuggled from Bangladesh to India.
