Suspected Food Poisoning Leaves Around 60 Hospitalised at AMCH

Around 60 people, including men, women and children, were admitted to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh after a suspected food poisoning incident left dozens seriously ill in Dhemaji district.

According to reports, all the affected individuals had attended a birthday Nam-Kirtan feast hosted at the residence of Premdhar Sungkorang in Gali Mrigang village under Jonai on June 30.

Nearly two days after the community feast, several attendees began experiencing symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea and acute stomach-related illness. As the number of patients increased and their condition deteriorated, they were rushed to AMCH in ambulances, buses and a traveller vehicle for emergency medical care.

The sudden influx of nearly 60 patients put the hospital’s casualty department under immense pressure. Doctors, nurses and other healthcare personnel immediately mobilised additional resources and launched intensive treatment to handle the emergency.

Hospital authorities said all patients are under medical observation, while the exact cause of the suspected food poisoning is yet to be determined. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain what triggered the mass illness.
