Star Health expands monsoon healthcare services in Bihar as home care demand surges

Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Ltd. has intensified its healthcare outreach in Bihar for the monsoon season after recording a five-fold increase in Home Healthcare utilisation for fever and infectious diseases in FY25-26, reflecting rising demand for preventive and home-based medical services. The health insurer also reported strong nationwide adoption of its recently launched Virtual OPD platform, with more customers opting for online consultations as their first point of medical care.

The company has strengthened access to its healthcare ecosystem by enabling policyholders to contact the “Talk to Star” helpline at 7200 222 333 for guided Home Healthcare and planned hospitalisation support, while non-policyholders can access free 24/7 Virtual OPD consultations through the Star Health Customer app.

Business Head Nitin Malik said the initiative is designed to encourage early medical intervention during the monsoon, when cases of dengue, malaria, fever and other infections typically rise. He noted that timely consultations can help prevent complications and reduce the need for hospitalisation.

Star Health said eligible policyholders can avail unlimited teleconsultations and cashless Home Healthcare services, including doctor-prescribed nursing care, blood tests, IV fluids and medical monitoring at home.

The company cited the National Statistical Office’s 80th round survey, which estimated average private hospitalisation costs at ₹48,948 in rural Bihar and ₹58,759 in urban Bihar, highlighting the growing financial burden of healthcare. By expanding digital consultations and home-based treatment options, Star Health aims to improve healthcare accessibility while supporting cost-effective care during the high-risk monsoon season.
