A meeting with representatives of various political parties regarding the forthcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation election was held at the conference hall of the State Election Commission office at Panjabari, Guwahati on Monday.
The meeting was chaired by State Election Commissioner Ranjan Sarma.
Various issues, including reservation of seats, expenditure limits for contesting candidates, digital election management, Model Code of Conduct were discussed at the meeting.
State Election Commissioner Sarma sought the cooperation of all political parties for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation election.
State Election Commission secretary Gitartha Baruah and representatives of various political parties were present at the meeting.
It may be mentioned that in the forthcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation election to be held for 42 wards, 270,772 registered voters will exercise their franchise at 316 polling stations. Of these, 1.29 lakh are male voters and 1.40 lakh are female voters. Out of the 42 wards, seven seats will be reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates, of which 3 seats will be reserved for women.
On the other hand, 35 seats will be open for contest, of which 18 seats will be reserved for women.
