A student from West Bengal has secured an international software engineering internship through campus recruitment, highlighting the growing demand for industry-ready technology talent from specialised institutions. SourashisSarkar, a native of Barrackpore and a student of Scaler School of Technology (SST), landed a three-month on-site internship at Singapore-based HealthTech startup Neurowyzr with a monthly stipend of 3,000 Singapore Dollars, approximately Rs 2 lakh.
Sourashis developed an interest in computer science during the COVID-19 pandemic by learning coding independently before pursuing an industry-focused undergraduate programme at SST. Through multiple internships and participation in hackathons, he strengthened his expertise in data structures, algorithms and backend development, which helped him secure the overseas opportunity. The internship followed an exclusive campus hiring drive conducted in March 2025 for SST students. More than 100 students participated in a rigorous selection process involving coding assessments, backend engineering tests and technical interviews. Nine candidates were shortlisted, while only two students were selected for the internship at Neurowyzr’s Singapore office from August to October 2025.
During the internship, Sourashis worked as a Backend Engineering Intern on enterprise software integrations for hospitals across Southeast Asia, helping healthcare institutions integrate the company’s digital brain functioning and cognitive screening platform into their existing systems. He said the international assignment strengthened his confidence in tackling real-world engineering challenges while providing exposure to global teams and cross-cultural work environments. Apart from academics, Sourashis co-founded Delta Education, a platform that assists students seeking admission to new-age technology-focused colleges. The venture has generated nearly Rs 10 lakh in revenue since its launch in early 2025. He also qualified for the ICPC Regional Programming Contest in 2024. The achievement reflects the increasing presence of Kolkata and West Bengal in India’s technology talent ecosystem. With more students from the region opting for industry-oriented programmes and global internships, recruiters are showing growing interest in hiring skilled software engineers from eastern India, strengthening Kolkata’s reputation as an emerging hub for technology education and international career opportunities.
