The flood situation in Assam remained serious on Monday, with more than 4.45 lakh people affected across six districts, even as rescue and relief operations continued in the worst-hit areas, according to the latest report of the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS).The affected districts are Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon and Kamrup (Metropolitan). Floodwaters have inundated villages, damaged roads and agricultural land, and disrupted normal life in several parts of the state. No human fatalities have been reported so far.According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), data released at 8 pm on July 27 showed that 4,45,790 people have been affected, while 631 villages under 21 revenue circles remain inundated.Charaideo continues to be the worst-hit district, with nearly 1.88 lakh affected people, followed by Sivasagar, where around 1.44 lakh people have been impacted. Floodwaters have also affected large parts of Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon and Kamrup (Metropolitan).
The floods have caused extensive damage to agriculture, with 37,139.52 hectares of cropland remaining submerged. More than 2.56 lakh livestock have been affected, while over 26,000 animals are reported to have been washed away in the floods.Among the major rivers, the Dhansiri (South) at Numaligarh continues to flow above the danger level. However, officials said no river has crossed its highest flood level (HFL).The state government has intensified relief operations across the affected districts. A total of 184 relief camps and relief distribution centres are currently operational, providing shelter and assistance to displaced families. According to ASDMA, 28,695 people are staying in these facilities, including 97 pregnant or lactating women and 42 persons with disabilities. Rescue operations are continuing with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the district administration deploying 67 boats to evacuate stranded residents and deliver relief materials. Floodwaters have also damaged public infrastructure in several districts.
Authorities reported that 171 houses have been completely destroyed, while another 4,667 houses have suffered partial damage. Several road stretches in Jorhat, Sivasagar and Charaideo have either been submerged or eroded by floodwaters, affecting connectivity. The education sector has also been impacted, with several primary schools in Sivasagar and Jorhat reporting flooding and structural damage. In Kamrup (Metropolitan), urban flooding has been reported from the Chandmari area under the Dispur revenue circle. However, officials said there has been no displacement of residents from the locality. The state government is continuing the distribution of essential relief materials, including rice, dal and salt, particularly in the worst-affected districts such as Sivasagar and Golaghat.
