Railway staff help woman deliver baby aboard Avadh Assam Express train

Railway staff extended timely help to a pregnant woman to safely deliver a baby aboard a train.
“Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has once again demonstrated its commitment towards passenger care by ensuring timely medical assistance to a pregnant passenger, who went into labour while travelling on board in Train No. 15910 (Lalgarh-Dibrugarh) Avadh Assam Express on June, 14,” informed an official press release.
“The passenger suddenly experienced labour pain as the train approached Rangiya. On receiving the information, railway staff immediately got into action and initiated coordinated efforts to provide emergency medical support without delay,” the release said.
The alertness and prompt response of the on-duty train staff enabled the Rangiya Control, Commercial and Medical Departments to mobilize assistance well in advance. A medical team headed by Dr. Sarat Chandra, Divisional Medical Officer of Rangiya Division, reached Rangiya Railway Station before the train’s arrival. In the meantime, with the assistance of the coach attendant and Krishnama Goldsmith Bezbaruah, a nurse from Jorhat Christian Mission Hospital who happened to be travelling on the train, the baby was safely delivered on board. The mother and the newborn were immediately attended to by the Railway medical team upon arrival at Rangiya station and shifted to Rangiya Railway Hospital for further care.
As the baby was born prematurely, both mother and child were subsequently referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Guwahati, through a Railway ambulance for specialized treatment and care. Both the baby and mother were reported to be stable.
