Prakruthi and the Directorate of Child Rights and Trafficking (DCRT), Government of West Bengal launched the “Amader-Golpo Katha” event at Dr.Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Bhasha Bhawan, National Library of India, Kolkata.
Prakruthi, an Indian organization, has been empowering women and children through programs aimed at transforming vulnerable groups. One such initiative is an initiative in expressive art therapies for trauma-affected girls. Smt (Dr) Nilanjana Dasgupta, Director, Directorate of Child Rights and Trafficking (DCRT), Government of West Bengal graced the event as the Chief Guest in the presences of other dignitaries. Nilanjana Dasgupta, Director, DCRT said, “Today’s event not only signifies a celebration of the girls’ journey but also serves as a testament to the efficacy of expressive art therapies in fostering resilience, coping mechanisms, academic performance, and overall progress. Over 230 children have benefited from these interventions, which encompass establishing rapport, trauma resolution, and reintegration.”
The event features 90 children performing Body Percussion, a therapeutic technique that aids emotional release and inner strength building. The therapeutic sessions, which include visual art, body movement, theatre, and drumming, have helped girls overcome trauma, manage stress, reduce anger, and anxiety. Additionally, AI-based tutorial and spoken English programs have enhanced confidence, communication skills, and leadership qualities. The programs were piloted in five child care institutions, benefiting over 200 children last year.
