Police Arrest Accused Linked to Illegal Tiger Parts Trade in Kaziranga

An absconding suspect in the illicit trade of Royal Bengal tiger body parts has been captured by officials from the Eastern Range, Gamiri, and Crime Investigation Range, Biswanath Chariali, under the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. The culprit, Ratnakanta Pegu (41), a native of Aathaishsharia village in Biswanath district, was captured by the investigating team based on intelligence inputs. According to official sources, Pegu has been at large since November 2025 in relation to the ER/02-2025 crime case. The accused has a history of involvement in rhino poaching crimes from 2019 to 2024, according to officials. The case is still being investigated further.
