PM Modi launches Tata Electronics’ semiconductor ventures, Rs 1,18,000 crores investment to create 50,000 jobs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a significant stride in India’s technological landscape today as he inaugurated Tata Electronics’ ambitious ventures – a semiconductor fabrication facility in Dholera, Gujarat, and a Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) Facility in Jagiroad, Assam.With an investment outlay totaling INR 1,18,000 crores, courtesy of Tata Electronics, these projects are poised to revolutionize India’s semiconductor manufacturing sector and generate nearly 50,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.In attendance were distinguished guests including Ashwini Vaishnav, Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, and Chief Ministers Bhupendra Patel of Gujarat and Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam. The event witnessed virtual participation from Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Jal Shakti.

Chairman of Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd., N. Chandrasekaran, expressed gratitude towards PM Modi for his vision in bringing the semiconductor industry to India’s shores. Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Electronics, highlighted the significance of the event in the journey towards ‘India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat’.The Dholera facility, in collaboration with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) of Taiwan, will be India’s first AI-enabled semiconductor fab. Positioned near Ahmedabad, it boasts an investment of INR 91,000 crores and is projected to generate over 20,000 skilled jobs. This fab will manufacture chips catering to diverse sectors including automotive, computing, wireless communication, and artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, the Jagiroad OSAT facility, developed with an investment of INR 27,000 crores, is strategically located near Guwahati. Expected to create over 27,000 jobs, it will focus on critical semiconductor assembly and test technologies crucial for applications in automotive, communications, computing, and AI.These ventures by Tata Electronics are poised to not only create employment but also lay the foundation for an indigenous semiconductor ecosystem in India, projecting the creation of over 1,00,000 skilled jobs in the long run.
