Independence Golden Jubilee Government Higher Secondary School (IGJGHSS), Pasighat, representing Arunachal Pradesh, has qualified for the quarterfinals of the girls’ U-17 category at the 65th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2026.
The Arunachal Pradesh team secured its place in the last eight from Pool A after finishing the group stage with two victories and one draw.
In their final group-stage match, IGJGHSS played out a 2-2 draw against Uttar Pradesh. Mary Taga and Gena Jamoh scored a goal each for the Arunachal side.
The team had begun its campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Sainik School on August 18. Kayom Modi scored twice, while Gena Jamoh added another goal to complete the win.
Arunachal continued its strong run in the second match, defeating Goa by the same 3-0 margin. Gena Jamoh scored twice, while Yami Mize found the net once.
With two wins and a draw from three matches, the Pasighat-based school team advanced to the quarterfinal stage.
Arunachal Pradesh is likely to face Assam in the quarterfinal, scheduled to be played on August 23.
The 65th edition of the prestigious Subroto Cup International Football Tournament began at the BR Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi on August 18. The tournament was inaugurated in the presence of Subroto Mukerji Sports Education Society vice chairman S Shivakumar.
The Arunachal Pradesh squad comprises Neyi Muang, Unu Jerang, Gena Jamoh, Kayom Modi, Gomem Ratan, Riya Pao, Mary Taga, Miyum Pertin, Junali Engtipi, Gegul Mili, Kensuna Taboh, Yami Mize, Sumbi Taku, Jerina Panggeng, Lomina Pagging and Neppi Nilom Tayeng.
Minto Peyang is coaching the team, while Anjipu Darang is serving as the manager.
The team will now look to continue its impressive form in the knockout stage as it prepares for a possible quarterfinal clash against neighbouring Assam.
