NSDC empowering women to break the bias

National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in combined efforts with Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) through Skill India mission focuses on inclusive skill development, with an objective of increased women participation for better economic productivity. The ministry in association with NSDC has undertaken several initiatives to achieve women empowerment through skill development provide skill development training to all sections of people including women.

Over 70,000 women have been trained in IT-ITeS job role, over 7,000 in automotive related job roles, around 80 Aerospace and Aviation related job roles during 2021. Plumbing sector that had no women candidate is seeing enrollment of female candidates with around 200 women’s being trained so far in plumbing job role. IndiaSkills Competition is a platform for young women and men to display their talent at national and international levels, strengthening India’s global representation.
Lives in Arunachal Pradesh, 21 year-old girl Rinki Mahto is one of the participants from north-east India. Her journey started in 2019 when she got enrolled in the civil course at Raman College. A lot of people discouraged her for taking up plumbing after pursuing civil engineering, but she was determined. Rinki became the first woman from her state to participate in the plumbing category in IndiaSkills Competition 2021 and won the IndiaSkills State Competition. She showcased her skills in regionals and Nationals and is now aiming to participate in WorldSkills competition in October 2022. She proved that men and women are equals.
