Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda began a three-day visit to the Northeast on August 4 to assess the impact of floods, flash floods and cloudbursts and review relief, rehabilitation and healthcare measures in Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
During his August 4–6 visit, Nadda will inspect flood- and landslide-affected areas, relief camps and damaged infrastructure and interact with residents affected by the disasters.
After arriving in Dibrugarh on Tuesday, Nadda is scheduled to visit Sivasagar and Charaideo in Assam on August 5. He will inspect flood-hit villages, relief camps, damaged agricultural land and houses and meet families affected by the recent deluge.
The Union minister will later travel to Mon district of Nagaland, where he will assess flood damage and review relief operations in Defence Colony and adjoining areas. He will then return to Dibrugarh to chair a high-level meeting with senior Assam government officials on relief, rehabilitation and public health measures.
On August 6, Nadda will visit Yazali in Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district to assess damage caused by flash floods and cloudbursts. His programme includes inspections of damaged roads and bridges, visits to relief camps and interactions with displaced residents.
The visit will conclude with a meeting with Arunachal Pradesh government officials to review the health situation and ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The Centre said Nadda’s visit reflects the government’s continued focus on the development and welfare of the Northeast. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often referred to the region as India’s “Ashtalakshmi” and highlighted its role as an important driver of the country’s growth.
