A CRPF personnel allegedly opened fire on his colleagues, resulting in two fatalities and one injury before he took his own life.
The incident has prompted an immediate and thorough investigation by local police and CRPF authorities.
The incident took place at the CRPF’s 34 Battalion camp in Katimari, Nagaon, at around 7 am, when Assistant Sub-Inspector (GD) Ballani Premabaram, who was on duty at the main gate, allegedly opened fire on his colleagues, police said.
Premabaram later turned the weapon on himself and died at the spot.
Head Constable (GD) Vishnu Prasad Baghel and Sub-Inspector (GD) Ramnawal Singh Yadav were killed in the firing, while Assistant Sub-Inspector (Mane) Govind Sripul was injured and admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
According to initial reports, the CRPF personnel used his service weapon to shot his fellow personnel within the camp premises.
Authorities have ssecured the CRPF camp and initiated a probe to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident. Forensic teams are expected to play a crucial role in reconstructing the sequence of events and gathering vital evidence from the scene.
The bodies of the deceased personnel have been sent for post-mortem examinations as part of the ongoing investigation. Such incidents within armed forces camps often highlight underlying stress factors and underscore the critical need for robust mental health support systems for personnel.
