Meet the Man Who Has Dedicated 19 Years to Saving Turtles

Pranab Malakar, a dedicated turtle conservationist in Hajo, has spent 19 years counting turtle eggs and protecting endangered species. He operates a turtle nursery by Vishnu Pushkar, near the Hayagriva Madhava Temple, exemplifying grassroots wildlife conservation in Assam through his tireless efforts and commitment to nature preservation. The current season is vital for turtle breeding and hatching. Malakar has successfully incubated eggs from 15 turtle species, significantly aiding local turtle conservation.

The Assam State Zoo supports his efforts, and he has requested the Forest Department to release adult turtles from the nursery to enhance space and care for newly hatched turtles. Malakar has requested a permanent appointment from the Government of Assam, believing that official recognition and stable employment would enhance his contributions to turtle conservation and wildlife protection.
