The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) launched an intensive crackdown against trafficking of contraband goods over three days and seized ganja worth over Rs 29 lakh recently, NFR sources confirmed. “During intensive checks and operations conducted from April 20 to 22, 2026, RPF teams recovered nearly 60 kg of ganja worth over Rs 29 lakh from different railway stations under NFR jurisdiction,” a statement issued by NFR on Sunday said. “In addition, three persons involved in illegal transportation of ganja were apprehended and handed over to the respective GRP outpost for further necessary action to be undertaken,” it said.
On April 22, an RPF team of Agartala jointly with GRP apprehended one person at Agartala railway station and seized around six kilograms of ganja worth approximately Rs 3 lakh. The apprehended person along with the contraband item was handed over to GRP/Agartala outpost. In another major operation on April 21, 2026, an RPF team of Agartala, in coordination with GRP, apprehended two persons at Agartala railway station and seized around 21.48 kg ganja worth approximately Rs 10.74 lakh from their possession.
The apprehended individuals along with the seized ganja were handed over to GRP/Agartala outpost, for further necessary action. Earlier on April 20, RPF personnel of New Jalpaiguri railway station recovered substantial quantities of unclaimed ganja in two separate incidents during routine checking and drives. In the first case, approximately 18 kilograms of ganja worth Rs nine lakh was recovered, while in another similar operation, approximately 13.80 kg ganja valued approximately Rs 6.90 lakh was seized.
