Malabar Group’s ₹20 crore West Bengal CSR push signals wider community investment focus

Malabar Group, parent company of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, has signed a Letter of Intent with the West Bengal government to strengthen CSR partnerships and align corporate investments with state development priorities. The Group has earmarked ₹20 crore for West Bengal during FY 2026-27.

The agreement, exchanged with Finance Minister Dr Swapan Dasgupta by Thahsil Ahammed, Regional Head (East India), along with Sajid N K, Manufacturing Head, and Shabeer P K, Senior Manager, CSR, comes under West Bengal’s integrated CSR framework involving the Finance Department, State CSR Council, CSR Portal and Projects Facilitation Unit.

Malabar Group’s existing footprint includes 297 Micro Learning Centres benefiting 11,873 children, scholarships for 500 girls and the Ujjwala Scholarship for 500 students from the Karigar community. It also provides daily nutritious meals to 1,200 beneficiaries and street medical services to about 60 people. The Group has completed 629 drinking water wells against a target of 800.

In Bhubaneswar, the announcement highlights the increasing relevance of structured corporate social investment across eastern India, particularly in education, healthcare, nutrition, water security and artisan livelihoods. Such initiatives can influence how companies approach community engagement while supporting local development ecosystems.

Malabar has proposed a home for 60 elderly women and committed 80 houses in West Bengal under Samman Awas. Nationally, Malabar Gold & Diamonds has allocated ₹200 crore for FY2026-27, including ₹114 crore for education, ₹30 crore for poverty alleviation, ₹14.2 crore for healthcare, ₹25 crore for shelter and ₹16.8 crore for humanitarian aid.
