The Assam Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a second individual in connection with an alleged espionage case involving a Pakistan Intelligence Operative (PIO). The accused, identified as Ritesh Kumar Singh (39), was apprehended from the Satgaon area of Guwahati.
According to police, Singh, a native of Bihar’s Begusarai district, was picked up from a rented accommodation in Satgaon for questioning as part of the investigation into STF Police Station Case No. 09/2026. Following interrogation, he was formally arrested.
Investigators claim preliminary findings indicate that Singh was involved in espionage-related activities and allegedly shared sensitive information concerning security forces with a Pakistan-based intelligence operative.
Ritesh is the second person to be arrested in the case. Earlier, the STF arrested Abhishek Kumar Singh (31) from a rented house in the Gandhinagar area under Satgaon Police Station during the night of October 3-4. Police alleged that Abhishek was in direct contact with a Pakistani intelligence operative and had been passing confidential information related to security force movements. A mobile phone, SIM cards and several documents were reportedly seized during the operation.
The investigation is now focused on determining Ritesh’s alleged role in assisting Abhishek and assessing the nature and extent of information that may have been shared with the foreign handler.
Officials said the STF is continuing its probe to uncover the full scope of the suspected espionage network and identify any additional individuals who may have been involved.
The arrests were reportedly made following intelligence inputs, including information developed by the Military Intelligence unit of the Tezpur-based Gajraj Corps.
Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had stated that two individuals, including a retired Army personnel working on a contractual basis, had been arrested for allegedly passing sensitive information related to security force movements to Pakistan-linked handlers.
