A major drug trafficking attempt has been successfully foiled by law enforcement in Mizoram’s Saitual district. In a massive operation, police intercepted a vehicle on the outskirts of the Keifang junction, leading to the seizure of methamphetamine tablets valued at over 19 crore rupees.
Acting on suspicion, police stopped a white car traveling from Manipur toward Aizawl. A detailed search of the vehicle exposed a sophisticated smuggling setup. Officers discovered twenty bundles containing over two lakh methamphetamine tablets hidden in cleverly concealed compartments at the rear of the vehicle, specifically beneath the spare tire section and behind the mudguards. The entire consignment weighed approximately 24 kilograms and carries an estimated market value of 19.21 crore rupees.
Two individuals inside the vehicle, identified as residents of Manipur, were arrested on the spot. Authorities have seized both the contraband and the vehicle. A case has been officially registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and an active investigation is underway to trace the supply chain.
Enforcement agencies note that this bust highlights a shifting trend in smuggling routes. While the Mizoram–Myanmar border has traditionally been a primary transit point, traffickers are increasingly utilizing Manipur as an alternative corridor to transport illicit substances.
