Jassper Shipping plans Rs 450 croreinvestment to tap India’s growing cargo demand

Hyderabad-based international cargo logistics company Jassper Shipping will invest up to Rs 450 crore over the next three years to expand its cargo-handling and logistics operations across India, the Gulf region and other international markets.

The investment, equivalent to US$50 million, will be deployed in phases by the company’s promoters, subject to market conditions, regulatory requirements and board approvals. In the first phase, Jassper Shipping plans to invest US$10 million, or around Rs 90 crore, to strengthen operations serving the power, steel, cement, agriculture, fertiliser, petrochemical, construction materials, heavy engineering, manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.

The company’s expansion comes amid rising freight movement in India. Major Indian ports handled more than 915 million tonnes of cargo in 2025-26, registering around 7% growth year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Meanwhile, 142 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals had been established by July 2026, adding about 224 million tonnes of annual freight-handling capacity, according to the Ministry of Railways.

In Kolkata, the investment could support growing cargo flows through the city’s port-linked industrial and logistics ecosystem, particularly for steel, cement, agricultural commodities, fertilisers and project cargo moving across eastern India. The city’s strategic position as a gateway to eastern and northeastern markets also offers potential for integrated road, rail and maritime cargo movement.

“India is going through a long phase of building new infrastructure, expanding factories and growing its farm and trade sectors,” said Pushpank Kaushik, CEO and Head of Business Development (Subcontinent, Middle East and Southeast Asia), Jassper Shipping.
