ISRO chairman refutes reports on space tourism

In response to media allegations, Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), denied the assertion that by 2030, ISRO’s proposed space tourism initiative would transport passengers to space for Rs 6 crore, or USD 700,000 per seat. He said in his interview with WION that he had never disclosed a price per passenger or any other specifics on India’s prospective space tourism initiative in a media interview or at an event. He claimed that the crucial Indian astronaut mission “Gaganyaan” is now being worked on by the Indian space agency.
