Indian Silk House Agencies expands Northeast focus after successful first year in Guwahati

Indian Silk House Agencies, one of East India’s leading saree retailers, has completed one year of operations in Guwahati, strengthening its presence in the Northeast and expanding its reach in the organised saree retail market. The company said the Guwahati outlet has emerged as a preferred destination for saree buyers in the region over the past year, helping the brand deepen customer engagement in Northeast India. The store’s success, along with the recent launch of a new outlet in Silchar, has expanded the company’s Northeast footprint to two states within 12 months.

Located in Guwahati, one of the fastest-growing urban centres in the Northeast, the store offers a wide range of traditional Indian weaves including Kantha, Baluchari, Matka and Tussar from Bengal, along with Kanjivaram, Banarasi, Paithani and Bandhej sarees sourced from different parts of the country. Indian Silk House Agencies currently works with more than 15,000 artisans across over 60 weaving clusters nationwide. The company is also pursuing aggressive expansion plans and aims to reach 500 stores across India by 2030, while continuing to open new outlets every seven to ten days nationally.

In Guwahati, the strong response to the store reflects the city’s growing demand for organised ethnic wear retail and premium traditional textiles. Retail observers say Guwahati is increasingly emerging as a major fashion and lifestyle hub for the Northeast, attracting brands looking to tap into rising consumer spending and demand for authentic handcrafted products. Commenting on the milestone, CEO Darshan Dudhoria said the company had entered Guwahati believing the Northeast was underserved by organised saree retail and added that the positive response has encouraged the brand to expand further across the region.
