The ICC has taken another disciplinary action during the ongoing second Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo. A day after Yashasvi Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando were penalised for their on-field altercation, Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya has also been sanctioned.
According to an ICC release, Jayasuriya has received an official reprimand for his conduct after being dismissed in Sri Lanka’s first innings.
The spinner was found guilty of breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment, fixtures or fittings during an international match.
Jayasuriya was dismissed by India spinner Manav Suthar with the final ball of the second day. While returning to the pavilion, he struck the boundary wedges with his bat.
He has also been handed one demerit point, which has been added to his disciplinary record. This was his first offence in a 24-month period.
Earlier, Jaiswal and Fernando were fined 25 per cent of their match fees and given one demerit point each following their Day 1 altercation.
