IDFC FIRST Bank expands direct tax payment options through digital and branch channels

IDFC FIRST Bank has completed the integration of its payment gateway for Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) collections, allowing taxpayers across India to pay direct taxes through multiple digital and physical channels.

Taxpayers can use UPI, credit and debit cards, as well as IDFC FIRST Bank’s retail and corporate internet banking platforms. Customers preferring offline transactions can make payments through cheque, demand draft or cash at any IDFC FIRST Bank branch. Customers of other banks can also use the bank’s payment gateway through their respective internet banking facilities. Challans and payment confirmations can be downloaded after transactions.

Shirish Bhandari, Head – Retail Liabilities, Cards & Payments, IDFC FIRST Bank, said the integration provides taxpayers flexibility to choose their preferred payment mode through a secure platform.

In Kolkata, the expanded payment facility could provide taxpayers, businesses and professionals in the city with additional channels for completing direct tax payments, particularly as digital banking adoption continues to support routine financial and compliance-related transactions.

IDFC FIRST Bank is among the private sector banks authorised to collect direct tax payments on behalf of CBDT. As of June 30, 2026, the bank reported customer business of Rs 6,04,776crore, including deposits and loans, with year-on-year growth of around 20%. It serves retail, MSME, rural, corporate and other banking segments.
