Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited has reported a sharp rise in demand for its smaller Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders, as the company expands affordable clean energy access across urban, semi-urban and strategic defence communities in India. The company said it supplied more than 6.48 lakh 5 Kg LPG cylinders and over 25,000 2 Kg cylinders between April 1 and April 24, 2026. HPCL said the smaller cylinders are designed to reduce upfront costs for consumers such as migrant workers, daily wage earners, roadside vendors and low-income households.
According to the company, the smaller LPG formats are also helping improve access to clean cooking fuel for India’s mobile workforce due to their portability and ease of use in temporary housing setups and small eateries. In a parallel move, HPCL is expanding its piped natural gas (PNG) network at the Sevoke Military Station in the Siliguri Corridor. The project aims to connect 2,500 households and six defence messes over the next three months. The permissions were formally handed over by Kunal Rohilla in the presence of Jayanta Narayan Das.
HPCL said its nationwide supply chain delivered over 300 lakh LPG cylinders during the same period, supported by dispatch of more than 1,86,241 tankers. The company added that 99.2 per cent of LPG bookings are now being made through digital platforms. To prevent misuse and ensure fair distribution, HPCL conducted 5,921 inspections between March 14 and April 24, taking action against 162 distributors and seizing 4,100 LPG cylinders during enforcement drives.
