Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik has congratulated mountaineers January Tali, Kampo Matey and Nyarian Matey for their remarkable achievements in Himalayan mountaineering. January Tali created history by becoming the first Indian woman to summit both Mount Kun, at 7,077 metres, and Mount Nun, at 7,135 metres, in the same climbing season, completing the ascents between July 27 and September 8. The Governor also lauded Tirap-based mountaineers Kampo Matey and Nyarian Matey for successfully scaling the 6,127-metre Mount Shinkun West in Himachal Pradesh. Commending their courage, endurance, technical skills and determination, Parnaik said the achievements were a matter of pride for Arunachal Pradesh and the nation. He noted that the challenging terrain, extreme weather, steep snow and ice climbs, and thin mountain air of the Zanskar region demand exceptional physical fitness and advanced mountaineering skills. The Governor expressed hope that the accomplishments would inspire more young people from Arunachal Pradesh to pursue mountaineering and other adventure sports, while showcasing the state’s growing sporting talent on national and international platforms. He wished the mountaineers continued success in their future expeditions and greater achievements for the state and the country.
