Godrej Industries Group hosted a high-level Malaysian delegation led by YB Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Malaysia, to explore cooperation in oil palm innovation, research, trade and the household insecticides sector.
The delegation included officials from Malaysia’s Ministry of Plantation and Commodities, the Consul General of Malaysia in Chennai, Malaysian Palm Oil Council, Malaysian Palm Oil Board and Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil. Discussions with Godrej Agrovet focused on opportunities in the oil palm upstream sector, including the use of advanced research and scientific tools to develop high-performing varieties suited to India’s diverse agro-climatic conditions. The sides said such cooperation could support locally adapted planting materials, productivity and resilience while contributing to India’s long-term edible oil security.
With Godrej Consumer Products, discussions centred on the household insecticides sector, including trade, innovation and strengthening the business environment for sustainable growth.
In Guwahati, greater focus on oil palm research and productivity could have relevance for Assam and the wider Northeast, where oil palm cultivation has emerged as part of efforts to expand domestic edible oil production and strengthen agricultural value chains.
Noraini said the engagement identified practical areas for cooperation in research, innovation, trade and sustainability. Godrej Industries Group’s Rakesh Swami said knowledge exchange could help address evolving agricultural and consumer needs.
