As more Indians gain the financial ability to spend on premium experiences, the real marker of privilege is shifting from affordability to assured access, according to Kotak Mahindra Bank. The bank said rising demand for concerts, exclusive dining experiences and cultural events is outpacing availability, making certainty of participation a key differentiator for affluent consumers.
Traditionally, premium credit cards signalled exclusivity through benefits such as airport lounge access, concierge services, golf privileges and reward points. However, Kotak said these features are gradually losing their distinctiveness as they become more widely available. Instead, consumers are increasingly valuing experiences that are exclusive, memorable and time-bound, such as front-row concert seats, chef-led dinners and performances by global artistes.
The bank cited industry reports estimating India’s live-events market at nearly ₹13,000 crore in 2025, reflecting growing consumer preference for spending on experiences rather than products. Kotak noted that during RishabhRikhiram Sharma’s recent tour, presale tickets for Mumbai and Delhi sold out within 24 hours, with the tour drawing nearly one lakh attendees across ten cities.
For its invite-only Kotak Solitaire customers, the bank offers presale access across its credit-card portfolio. While presales generally account for 20–30% of ticket inventory, allocations for select recent events rose to as much as 40% in response to demand.
“We are seeing affluent customers place greater importance on participating in experiences that feel distinctive, memorable and difficult to recreate,” said JyotiSamajpati, Head – Affluent & Salaried Proposition, Kotak Mahindra Bank. She added that access, timing and ease have become increasingly important as consumers seek confidence in securing a place at sought-after events.
Kolkata is witnessing a similar shift in consumer behaviour, with rising demand for premium concerts, culinary festivals and curated cultural events. The city’s affluent consumers are increasingly planning participation well in advance, driving interest in exclusive ticket access and premium banking benefits. Industry observers believe this trend presents opportunities for banks and lifestyle brands to strengthen customer engagement through experience-led offerings as discretionary spending on premium events continues to grow.
