DoNER Minister Highlights Organic Mission to Elevate Sikkim’s Global Economic Presence

Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said the journey of globally acclaimed organic state, Sikkim would be taken a notch higher with Mission Sikkim Organics. “The Rs 360-crore Mission, with support from Ministry of DoNER, seeks to elevate Sikkim from a certified organic producer to a globally integrated premium organic economy driven by world-class infrastructure, aggregation, branding, traceability and export-market integration,” Scindia said. He said the mission would strengthen farmer incomes, empower FPOs, expand cold-chain and logistics networks and impact more than 66,000 farmer families across the state. “Led by the Prime Minister, India’s growth story is increasingly being shaped by regions like Sikkim where sustainability, enterprise and community-led development converge with extraordinary promise,” he said.

Notably, the 51st State Day of Sikkim was organized in Gangtok on Saturday with Vice President of the country C.P.

Radhakrishnan was present as the chief guest in the state level program while Scindia was present as a special guest. Addressing the programme, the DoNER minister expressed confidence to strengthen the state’s economic growth through the promotion of organic agricultural production. Scindia had arrived in the state on Thursday to review major infrastructure, tourism and connectivity projects. His visit is being viewed as significant amid ongoing centrally funded initiatives linked to border infrastructure, pilgrimage tourism and transport connectivity in the region. During the tour, the minister also visited the famous Temi Tea Garden in South Sikkim’s Namchi district, where he interacted with tea garden workers and joined them in plucking tea leaves.
