A person arrested for allegedly issuing a death threat to Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on social media during the live broadcast of Independence Day celebrations was sent to five days of police custody by a court on Sunday.

Abdul Mutaleb, arrested by police from Bhuragaon in Morigaon district, was produced before the court on Sunday, which granted the custody. Serious allegations have been made against the detained youth of demanding Rs 1 crore to kill the Chief Minister and raising slogans in support of Pakistan.

While the live was on, Abdul Mutaleb posted a comment offering to kill the Chief Minister for Rs 1 crore and asked people to contact him on a phone number he mentioned. The comment also allegedly contained the slogan ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ and abusive language against the Chief Minister.

Following the incident, Assam Police acted swiftly, traced the social media account and detained accused Mutaleb from Bhuragaon in Morigaon district. The accused is being interrogated to ascertain the real motive behind making such a threatening comment and the circumstances.
