A 21-day Yoga Teachers’ Training Course concluded with a valedictory ceremony at the Manan Kendra, where Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang attended as the chief guest. The programme marked the completion of training for 825 teachers drawn from government schools, monastic institutions and Sanskrit Pathshalas across the state.
The training was conducted at the Tribal Research Centre in Assam Lingzey. It was organised with the aim of bringing yoga into the school system in a structured way. The sessions were led by Kurukulla Impact Foundation and Drolma Yoga School, which provided practical and theory-based instruction to participants over the three-week period.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said yoga can play an important role in improving both physical and mental health. He said the government wants to take yoga beyond institutions and make it a part of everyday life in Sikkim. “Our aim is to reach every household and encourage people to adopt yoga as a daily practice,” he said.
Education Minister Raju Basnet also addressed the gathering and spoke about the need to improve the quality of education in the state. He asked the trained teachers to apply what they have learned in classrooms so that students benefit in a practical way. Officials from the education department said that yoga will now be included in the weekly school curriculum.
The programme at the Manan Kendra included yoga demonstrations by participants, where teachers showed techniques they had learned during the training. There were also experience-sharing sessions, where teachers spoke about how the course helped them understand the benefits of yoga and how they plan to use it in schools.
Certificates were distributed to all participants at the end of the programme. The event also included the felicitation of Class 10 toppers, recognising their academic performance.
