On Wednesday, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said the Assam government will conduct the state-wide exercise 'Gunotsava 2023' to assess the performance of around 43 lakh students studying in over 44,500 schools. According to sources, the assessment will begin from January 18 to February 18 with the help of the education department to improve learning outcomes. 'Gunotsav' was first organized in 2017 and already three rounds of this exercise have been conducted covering all the districts of Assam. Assam Bajrang dal activist murdered

A Bajrang Dal worker named Sambhu Kairi was killed near Karimganj on Saturday. Kairi was returning to Karimganj district after attending a three-day training camp of Bajrang Dal in neighboring Hailakandi district. Police said that one person involved in the murder has been arrested. Further investigation is underway. The situation in the area is critical, sources said. Local people were demanding the arrest of the culprits; Some forces have been deployed to control the situation. Police said the man was hit with a sharp weapon. Lakhimpur eviction drive to continue soon

The eviction drive started in Assam from May, 2021 last year on the orders of Chief Minister Himanta Biwa Sharma. On Tuesday, a 500-hectare land eviction drive was launched in Lakhimpur district, reportedly affecting more than 100 families.
