The Rs 1,260 crore New Integrated Terminal Building (Phase-1) at Chennai International Airport, a building that would increase passenger handling, was officially opened on Saturday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The NITB was specifically created to highlight the state's rich cultural legacy.The airport's ability to serve passengers will go from 23 million passengers per year (MPPA) to 30 MPPA with the installation of this new integrated terminal building. The new terminal incorporates traditional elements like the Kolam, saree, temples, and other characteristics that emphasise the surrounding landscape, making it a remarkable reflection of the local Tamil culture, the government claimed.
