AFSPA likely to be lifted from Assam by November

Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is activated in Assam. AFSPA is specially imposed for disturbed areas in state with powers like search, arrest and to open fire if they deem it necessary, without a magistrate’s permission, for “the maintenance of public order.” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced to uplift this special power from the districts of Assam by November, 2023. Six ethnic communities from Assam were demanding ST status since few months in the state. The communities were the tea tribes, Chutia, Koch-Rajbongshi, Matak, Moran, and Tai-Ahom. As Assam Anti-Corruption wing are in an operation since last few months to end corruption in the state. Many govt. officials are caught red handed accepting bribe from the needy. Now, Minakshi Kakoti Kalita, an Assistant Commissioner of State Tax, was caught red handed in a trap laid by officers of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption worth more than Rs. 65 lakhs was recovered. Assam Govt inks MoU to connect 7 religious places on Brahmaputra

Defamation Case filed against Assam Chief Minister

A Congress leader has filed a defamation case against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Uttarakhand Court.
