On Tuesday, Election Commission has released its draft proposal for delimitation in Assam resulting in increased of seats. As per reports, seats increased and reserved for Scheduled Castes from eight to nine and for Scheduled Tribes from 16 to 19. Additionally, the delimitation was carried out on the basis of the 2001 Census, the first such exercise in Assam since 1976. Among the Lok Sabha seats, two seats were proposed to be reserved for STs and one for SCs. Flood in Assam; villages under water

On Monday, flood condition in Assam increases affecting more villages in number than before including villages, towns and farmlands. According to the sources, the India Meteorological Department has issued a 'Red Alert' and predicted 'very heavy' to 'extremely heavy' rainfall across several districts of Assam till Thursday. Due to continuous rain more than 33,500 people are affected in Cachar, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Hojai, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Udalguri districts. Also, 142 villages are under water and 1,510.98 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across Assam so far.
