Assam CM announced about construction of underwater railroad

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has recently announced about constructed of underwater railroad tunnel across Brahmaputra River in Assam. Assam's first underwater railroad tunnel will be built between Numaligarh and Gohpur. The project will cost around Rs 6,000 crore. The tender for the project will open on July 4 and is expected that construction of the tunnel will start during the tenure of the current CM and will be around 35 kilometres long. On Saturday, Assam flood situation worsen in the state, earlier many villages of the state were affected and people were left homeless. Now, according to recent updates, over 4.88 lakh people have been affected so far, with 2 deaths drowned during the flood. Five arrested involved in drugs peddling, Assam

On Friday, Assam Police seized narcotics worth at least Rs 25 crore in the international market. Police also arrested five persons on charges of drugs peddling. The five arrested persons were identified as Talab Hussain, Tahir Ahmed and Khalid Hussain, residents of Patharkandi in Assam and Nitai Sarkar and Nitu Sarka from Tripura. Earlier, Police was informed about drugs was being peddled through the Karimganj district. Acting on the information, a team from Karimganj police was deployed in the Bazarichera area. Soon the team arrested the drugs peddlers and seized their vehicle too.

Manipur violence; Assam rifles additional troops

The Assam Rifles has moved additional troops to secure a bridge on a national highway in south Manipur in the district of the violence-hit state. As per reports, Meitei insurgent groups who were planning to damage the bridge at Sinzawl on NH102 B, which connects Manipur with neighboring Mizoram. Election Commission’s Assam delimitation plan

On Tuesday, Election Commission has released its draft proposal for delimitation in Assam resulting in increased of seats. As per reports, seats increased and reserved for Scheduled Castes from eight to nine and for Scheduled Tribes from 16 to 19. Additionally, the delimitation was carried out on the basis of the 2001 Census, the first such exercise in Assam since 1976. Flood in Assam; villages under water

On Monday, flood condition in Assam increases affecting more villages in number than before including villages, towns and farmlands. According to the sources, the India Meteorological Department has issued a 'Red Alert' and predicted 'very heavy' to 'extremely heavy' rainfall across several districts of Assam till Thursday. Due to continuous rain more than 33,500 people are affected in Cachar, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Hojai, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Udalguri districts.
