Guwahati/ Washington DC, July 2020: Silchar could see a significant surge in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths if the Radhamadhab Road Red-Light Area opens, according to a coalition of experts at Harvard Medical School and the Yale School of Medicine. 4 Accused Cops Arrested, 1 Held by CB-CID

Following much uproar, Inspector Sridhar, Sub-Inspector Balakrishnan and constable Murugan were arrested in the wee hours on Thursday, by CB-CID under IPC 302 (murder) in connection with the custodial deaths of Jeyaraj and Beniks in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi. The CB-CID which took over the case on 1 July arrested Sub-Inspector Raghuganesh late last night. Constable Muthuraj has been held by the police but his name has not been added to the first information report (FIR) yet.

Earthquake in Katra

A moderate-intensity earthquake hit Katra in Jammu and Kashmir today. The quake, measuring 3.6 on the Richter Scale, occurred at 14.02 hours. No immediate reports of casualties or damage has been reported so far. This afternoon, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck 119 kilometers north-northwest of Kargil, Ladakh as well. The tremors were felt at 13.11 hours. On Tuesday too, an earthquake with magnitude 4.0 on the Richter Scale struck 84 kms east of Katra at 8.56 am.

7 Kolkata policemen test positive

At least seven sleuths of the Kolkata Police detective department have tested positive for Covid-19, sources at the state health department said on Thursday. Test reports of the seven policemen, who had complained of fever last week, confirmed that they have contracted the disease, a senior officer at the department said. All seven of them have been sent for treatment at different hospitals in the city, he said.
