The Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday filed 19 FIRs in connection with the Hathras case. Prashant Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, law and order, claimed a pre-planned conspiracy to push the state into turmoil. The state police was facing a barrage of criticism from the opposition ranks over its handling of the case. India will extend a surcharge on taxes on luxury goods including cars and tobacco products beyond 2022, under plans to help states repay loans raised to meet revenue shortfalls in the current fiscal year, the finance minister said on Monday. "The GST council has approved to extend the cess(surcharge) beyond five years," Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters after a virtual meeting with state finance ministers. On Saturday authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras reopened the borders and said that they will allow media to enter the village where a 19-year-old woman was gang-raped, said the official.
