Contractors suspended for Morbi Bridge at Gujarat

The court suspended the contractors repairing the ill-fated bridge at Morbi in Gujarat. The court said the contractors were not competent to do such work. According to reports, while replacing the floor of the bridge, its cable was not replaced and it could not take the weight of the replaced flooring, the prosecution told the magistrate's court, citing a forensic report. 135 people lost their lives when the bridge collapsed on Sunday evening. The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Assam government on a petition against the Gauhati High Court on state-run madrassas. According to the report, the High Court observed that madrasas being maintained by the state through provincialization are affected by Article 28(1) of the Constitution and therefore cannot be allowed to impart religious instruction.
